Since I started Jacket Society, I have been asked several times about my diet and exercise routine and even my beauty routine at times.  Normally I like to write about fashion and styling since this is where my expertise lies.  But with the start of 2017, I have decided to share some of these kind of topics on occasion here in my blog. Please understand I am not an expert on any of these fields and I will only be sharing my personal experiences and habits in each category.

Today I will talk a little bit about my diet routine. I have been blessed to be on the thin side most of my life and have never really had to diet. I may have cut back on things that do not agree with me but it has been for health reasons not loosing weight.  Here are a few points that have worked for me and I believe have helped me stay thin.

  1. Eating 3 meals a day; I have always made a point to eat all three meals every day, even if it is just fruit for breakfast and soup for lunch, but I never skip meals.
  2. Portion control;  I think this comes from eating 3 meals a day. If you eat 3 times, then you won’t starve yourself then eat too much at the next meal.
  3. I don’t have a sweet tooth; I guess I am lucky here because I know all my girlfriends and so many women love desert.  My only real sweet weakness is chocolate which I eat in moderation.
  4. No fast food – I don’t remember the last time I have had fast food, it must have been when my son was little and liked McDonalds chicken nuggets.
  5. I don’t drink any soda – I stopped drinking soda after my teenage years and since my son was born we have never even kept soda in the house and he never drinks it either.

These are just a few things that help me with not only maintaining my weight but also staying healthier.  The fact that in the recent years I have been lucky to work from home has helped a lot too with eating healthier since I prepare all my own meals at home and I know what is in each meal.  I will write more about this subject occasionally throughout the year as it is not something I can cover in one blog story. I would also love to hear about your diet adventures if you choose to share.

So on to today’s outfit, I am super excited that we have been able to get more of one of our best selling items, the Cape Vest.  We had these in the fall 2015 and they were top sellers, so I reintroduced them again this last fall and they sold out again quickly.  So here we are at the beginning of 2017 and I have been able to get a few more of them again in black and a new color we are calling “putty”.

For my casual weekend look, I wore both colors with my faux leather pants, white long sleeve tee, black booties and bag.  We also have a brand new beautiful necklace that works with both colors.  All three items are now available in our shop, limited quantities so do not wait to purchase.

Beautiful looks, Nora. Those capes look like the perfect thing for an extra winter layer or when spring comes and we make that transition to less layers. Thanks for including some of your diet tips. This is something I struggle with regularly. I just love food and, unfortunately, the stuff that is not good for you. Ha, ha. I am currently in a Facebook weight loss group where we encourage each other to eat better and exercise. It helps to have accountability and support. Thanks for sharing your lovely outfits. I really like the necklace and the scarf you recommended as well. Have a great day.

      Hi Amy,
Thank you so much! The facebook weight loss group sounds really cool, it always helps when you have a friend or friends to encourage you to eat right and exercise as well. Good luck 🙂

Nora, I love this cape! Both are beautiful but I would gravitate toward the taupe as it looks softer on me. You look fab in both and it seems as faux leather leggings are a great buy. I also don’t eat fast food, but rather mini meals as I have Gastroperesis.

      Hi Jess,
Thank you so much for stopping by. The taupe color seems to be the favorite right now since we are already sold out of them 🙂

The cape vests are beautiful! They look fabulous with the leather pants.

It sounds you have a routine that works for you and that you stick to it. I think consistency is key. I eat healthy most of the time, and we eat almost all meals at home, but I do sometimes get a bit off track when life gets stressful… Yet, when life gets stressful good food choices are really important…

      Hi Andrea,
Thank you so much. I agree consistency is key and it sounds like you follow a pretty healthy diet. I know we all stray sometimes, you just have to get back on the right track again.

    Hi Nora,
I stumbled across your blog for the first time this morning. I love your style! I’m also a ‘mature’ woman and have similar style to yours – classic yet edgy so it’s great to get some inspiration!

Nora I was wondering how tall you are to help me work out which of your jackets would suit me? I’m fairly slim and a not so tall 5′ 3″ and I sometimes look shorter and overpowered by some jackets. Do you have any tips?

      Hi Annie,
Thank you very much, I am glad you found us! I am a little under 5″4″ so very similar to you. I am on the slim side as well and most of the time wear small or xsmall jackets. I would say to go for semi shaped jackets or blazers and medium or short length. Over sized and longer jackets tend to be harder to wear for us smaller women. Please feel free to check out our jackets and give me a selection of which ones you like and I can give you more details about the fit and if I think they would work for your body type which sounds similar to mine. You can email me directly at nora@jacketsociety and we can communicate that way. Thank you so much for stopping by and your lovely comment.

Thank you Nora your reply was really helpful. You look taller than 5’4!

Looking forward to investing in a few of your pieces as the weather starts to cool down here in Australia.
