How to Feminize Menswear Inspired Clothing

How to Feminize Menswear Inspired Clothing

As most of you know I have always been a big fan of mixing feminine with masculine pieces.  There is something sexy and powerful in wearing menswear inspired clothing but you don’t want to look like a man wearing them.  So its always great to find ways to feminize the look.

The reason I wanted to write about this subject today is because we have a brand new Black Pinstripe Long Boyfriend jacket we have just added to our site. Most of the time when I design a blazer, I like giving it a bit of shape.  However, sometimes there are pieces that need to be loose and oversized, for example “boyfriend jackets and blazers”.

The term obviously comes from borrowing your boyfriend’s jacket so it has to fit loose and on the big side. I think we have all owned a “boyfriend jacket” at some point especially in the eighties when they started trending.  With the menswear trend being so big again and shapes also getting looser, I thought this would be a great time to do a blazer inspired by this look.

The fabric is black with very fine white pinstripes and as I mentioned before the body is boxy, loose and on the long side.  The sleeves are folded back into a cuff with a tab making them slightly shorter which gives the jacket an interested proportion mix.

Since this jacket is oversized it looks best with slimmer bottoms like skinny jeans, leggings or slim skirts and dresses. I style so many of our pieces with skinny jeans or pants in general that I thought this would be a good opportunity to style this piece with a short slim skirt.  I have always loved the proportion of an oversized jacket with a slim short skirt, again reminiscent of the eighties.

As a pop color I chose a really pretty pink blouse which I am calling our new Rose Criss Cross Blouson Blouse.  It is a beautiful pink shade made out of a soft and silky fabric. It has a criss cross front that has a drawstring in the bottom so you can shape it to be loose or more fitted. The back does not have the drawstring and is longer than the front.  It has long sleeves with a tab inside making it easy to wear the sleeves at three quarter length which is what I have done.  You can see it with long sleeves in our shop photos.

For a necklace I added a new piece that is quite a statement piece called our Black String Necklace with Gold Pendant and Black Fringe.  It works great with this look because it has a little bit of pink string tied into the black fringe. However, it is a great piece that will make any outfit pop.

I also included our Black Belted Long Moto Vest as a secondary outerwear piece for you. I have styled this piece for you before and you can see that look here. Moto jackets and vest also come from  masculine looks so I thought this would also be a great piece to mix for a feminine/masculine look and it works great with the blouse and necklace.

All four pieces I am showing you today are part of our Weekend Flash Sale where you can get 15% off with code FS923 plus Free US Shipping. All international shipments are a flat rate of $25.00.
