More Tips On Transitional Dressing Into Fall

Last week I wrote about transitional dressing and how I incorporate some spring pieces into my fall outfits. Well I wanted to continue on the same idea this week and talk a little bit more about the “transitional season” which is actually a “big” season here in Los Angeles.
I found this geometric print soft jacket at Forever 21, of all the places, a week ago. I was drawn to it for two reasons, one was the geometric print which is a big trend for fall 2014, and second was the draping and asymmetrical shape. Normally I wear prints as a top more under jackets because I can never find a good printed jacket that I like, I really understand prints are very personal and it’s hard to find universal ones that everyone will like. So when I saw this in the store, I really liked the pattern and color combination. I also liked the fact that it was like a soft women’s jacket, and because it was in a dark fallish color combo, it made for a great transitional piece. I decided to purchase it and sure enough it gave me the idea of making it a kind of part two to last weeks story so i could give you a couple of more pointers about transitional dressing.

1. Find a light weight jacket or sweater to throw on but in a darker fall color. Even if it’s still 80 degrees outside you can have your soft jacket on and not be too hot but if it’s in a fall color you will still be dressed season appropriately.

2. Get a printed piece but in a dark fall color combo, it can be a soft jacket or a blouse you can wear open and layer. The print can be a dark color way but the fabric can still be light so you don’t feel hot but you look like you have transitioned into fall.

3. Use fall color jewelry with fall color gemstones like amber, topaz or jade and metals like antique gold, silver or copper.

I hope these tips are helpful to you and I would love to hear some of your ideas about transitional dressing.

  1. Hi Nora,
Thanks for the tips. Well, I am here in Charlotte, so we experience a similar issue, fall weather doesnt really come until the end of Oct if then. I need to do better next year with transitional peices, and I thank you for the tips. I do have quite a few light jackets I can incorporate. I love this printed jacket on you and my eyes couldn’t stop staring at these waxed jeans. I always loved the look of waxed jeans, and because of my leg sensisitvity, I do not wear pants as often as skirts. I have wanted to try these, but need a looser fit. THose look amazing on you. Love the look, the longer metallic necklaces and how you added metallics in your bag and shoes.

  2. That’s a perfect look for this season, Nora! So fare, I don’t wear a lot of prints but actually want to incorporate more into my wardrobe.
Your ethno jewellery perfectly combines your jacket and the silky blouse.
And I have just ordered coated grey jeans, my first pair! Aren’t they great?

    • Hi Susan,
I bought the jacket from F21 about a week ago but it was from one of their stores near me in Los Angeles area. Not sure if they have all their stuff on their web site. Thank you so much, I am glad you liked the outfit!

  3. Hi Nora, I am loving the tassel necklace, it’s so unique. You don’t say what brand it is? Also, love the blue shades and browns together on you. I love all your special touches!

    • Hi Cherie,
The tassel necklace was made by a woman that I know and I bought it years ago in a charity event. She doesn’t really have a label and I think she only does it as a hobby and sells it in charity events. I haven’t been in touch with her for a long time. It is a very unique piece and I love wearing it especially during fall season. Thank you so much for your lovely comment.

    • Hi Lorna Mai
I know I have a weak spot for designer bags :)) I lucked out with this jacket, I dont usually find much at Forever 21 especially in the jacket category. Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting.

    • Hi Lana,
I know prints are very personal, I dont wear a lot of prints either because I am picky and dont find many that I like. But once in a while I get lucky. Thank you so much for your lovely comment.

  4. Hi Nora, I am Ada. First time commenting however I have followed and admired your blog for a while. This was such a great post full of the perfect tips for Fall. This outfit is gorgeous and I’d wear it head to toe. Your jacket and necklace are beautiful and both make a statement.

I’d love for you to welcome by my blog as well. You got a huge fan here.

Thanks and Happy Thursday! Ada. =)

  5. Hi Nora good choice on the jacket! It’s funny, I love prints so I never thought about them being a more personal preference. I am always just automatically drawn to a bold prints, especially if it has beautiful colors too. This outfit is definitely perfect for the fall. I love your accessories. The necklaces give the printed jacket a more ethnic look. ~Sherri

  6. There is so much perfection in the way you’ve paired abundant accessories with the softness of this jacket that you make me want to try this look tomorrow. I really like how the pattern / texture of your jacket contrasts with the light weight fabric….and you found that at Forever21!!! AS IF!

Thanks again for joining the #reasonstodress Real Mom Street Style linkup, you bring so much style to the table!

  7. That jacket is from F21? I really love F21, but that is a really nice jacket and the print isn’t too overpowering and the colors work well together. I would normally hesitate on how to style a jacket like that, but you did well with simple tee in a color that goes with it and that gold jewelry! Love this look!!

    • Hi Carrie,
I know I usually dont shop that much at F21 especially for jackets…but once in a while somthing catches my eye. This was one of my good finds, I liked the print and the color. Thanks so much for stopping by 🙂
