Mothers Day Sale And A Movie About The Met Gala

Mothers Day Sale And A Movie About The Met Gala

Mother’s Day is only a week away and I wanted to remind everyone about our Mother’s Day Sale that is going on right now in our store. Everything in the store is 15% off with code MDAY16 plus Free USA Priority 2-3 day shipping.  There is still time to order a gift for a loved one or treat yourself and get it in time before next Sunday May 8th.  I hope everyone will take advantage of this offer, as we all deserve to be treated every so often.  The sale will end at midnight on May 8th.

Last week my husband and I went to see a new movie release called “The First Monday in May”.  This movie is currently out on limited release and is showing only in select theaters and cities.  It follows the creation of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s most attended fashion exhibition in history, “China: Through The Looking Glass”, an exploration of Chinese-inspired Western fashions by Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton.  I had the pleasure of seeing this exhibit last year when I was in New York with my son and wrote a blog story about it which you can see here.  It was one of the most beautiful exhibits I have ever been to. To be able to see these gowns up close which were work of arts rather than gowns was truly unforgettable for me.

“The First Monday in May” is a 1 hour 30 minute documentary movie that shows behind the scenes while preparing for the 2015 grand Met Gala event and all the hard work and labor that went into producing it.  For me it was very interesting. Being a fashion designer by profession, I love and admire all the beauty and hard work that goes into these kind of shows. The timing to see this movie couldn’t have been better, since the Met Gala 2016 is happening this upcoming Monday, May 2nd.  The theme this year is “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”. The upcoming exhibition will focus on the dichotomy between hand made haute couture and machine made fashion.  The show will feature more than 100 pieces of fashion, both haute couture and ready to wear.  From couture pieces featuring hand embroidery to pleating and lacework techniques, to machine made laser cut techniques, they will all be showcased together.  There will also be several “in process” workshops including 3-D printing where the public will be able to see the actual process take place at the museum.

I would love to see this exhibit just like the last one and even though I don’t have any plans for traveling to New York this summer, I am seriously considering it.

This year E News is exclusively covering the red carpet event this Monday May 2nd  coverage starts at 7 pm EST / 4 pm PST and I know I will be watching.

Below you can see a trailer for the movie and if you are interested in seeing it.

Nora, yesterday I had just signed up to see this documentary! Can’t wait – it is showing only in Newport (RI) on Monday night!

I also received the Rose Fringe jacket. Fits perfectly and I love the color. I want to pair with white culottes midi length – looking for some with interesting texture. Have to do some searching!

      Hi Kathy,
I know it is only showing at a few theaters here in LA as well. Being such a small movie, not a lot of people interested in seeing it I guess. I am so glad you like the Rose Fringe jacket! Can’t wait to see how you style it.

Hi Nora. I will probably still order something for Mother’s day. I have just been so busy. I love fashion and I think the Met Gala is one of the most fashion-forward, high couture, avant garde events. Cannot wait to see all the photos online of what everyone wore. I think I would enjoy this documentary since I am a fashion-lover and I love Project Runway too. Off to see if they are showing it in Michigan. Thanks for sharing.
