Our New Classic Milano Blazer

Our New Classic Milano Blazer

My all time favorite type of a jacket is a blazer. ย Womens Blazers are what I love to wear the most for any occasion.ย  From wearing a blazer with jeans for a date night or lunch with the girls, to a blazer over a dress or pencil skirt for work or a business meeting, they give you a polished and chic style and really complete your look.

Its always interesting to find out a little history about what we are wearing and where they came from, so today here’s a brief history of the womens blazer as we know it.

After doing a little research I found two different stories that have both contributed to where the origins of the blazer came from.

1. ย Lady Margaret Boat Club

The first story dates back to 1825 when the “Lady Margaret Boat Club” was founded by members of St Johnโ€™s College in Cambridge England.ย  They wore bright scarlet red colored flannel jackets and since the color โ€œblazedโ€, they were named the “blazers”.

2. H.M.S Blazer

The second story dates back to 1837 when Queen Victoria decided to carry out an inspection of one of the vessels of the Royal Navy, named the H.M.S Blazer. In an effort to impress the Queen, the commander decided to get new uniforms for his men.ย  Eventually they settled on an outfit that included a double breasted jacket with brass royal navy buttons.ย  Since then these types of jackets have been called blazers.

These days a blazer is a type of jacket that resembles a menโ€™s suit jacket but cut more casually.ย  They can be single breasted or double breasted with different types and sizes of collars and lapels.ย  They can be trimmed or solid with a different types of buttons. ย With blazers being my favorite type of women’s jacket, I always try to include some in my Jacket Society line every season and I am happy to say I have quite a few more new ones coming for this fall that I will be showing you over the next few weeks right here.

Today I want to introduce you to our brand new Milano blazer which is a beautifully cut menswear inspired blazer in a novelty basket weave Italian fabric.ย  The Milano is a very versatile blazer as you can wear it to the office or casually over jeans.ย  The look I styled here today for you all is a bit more career inspired especially because I wanted to style it with aย niceย crisp white shirt, as I have not shown you this type of a look before. The shirt can be replaced with a print or solid top and that will change the whole look of the outfit. I have paired today’s look with a pair of wider leg black trousers, but you can easily wear it with basic trousers or skinny pants.ย  To give the outfit a bit of edge, I added one of our brand new animal print scarves and my red Prada bag.ย  I love the mix of the pattern of the jacket and the animal print scarf. ย This blazer will also look great with jeans and some killer heels, which is a look I will style for you in the future.

The Milano blazer is available on our web site Here and the animal print scarf is available here.

What are your thoughts on blazers and how do you like our Milano blazer?

Interesting history about blazers. I never knew they have British roots. They are definitely a wardrobe staple for me. It’s so versatile, it’s the easiest, trendiest piece to pull off in a variety of chic ways! Your blazer is lovely. It has an interesting a mix of masculinity and femininity to it. I think it’ll look great dressed up or down. Thanks for the share ๐Ÿ™‚

Corporate but not stuffy. The flared trouser gives it a hipster feel. A nice combination, and you picked the perfect location for such an outfit – beautiful Pasadena City Hall; where my mother worked for over 25 years.

The Milano blazer is stunning. Houndstooth is forever classic. Great idea pairing it with a crisp white blouse. That scarf is beautiful, also. Such a tailored look.
