Spring 2015 Trend Alert Military Chic

Spring 2015 Trend Alert Military Chic

Just like animal prints, military influence seems to be on trend at least once a year.  In my opinion where animal prints seem to lend themselves better to fall season, military and utilitarian looks seem to be perfect for spring.  Maybe it’s the olive and khaki colors or the cotton based fabrics but somehow I always gravitate towards this look more for spring.

For spring 2015 shown back in September on runways, many designers looked to military uniforms for inspiration. From Chanel and Marc Jacobs to Ralph Lauren there were many looks and pieces to get inspired by when you are shopping for this trend.  Some designers showed them head to toe and some mixed them up with other pieces.  Personally I always like mixing things up especially in unexpected ways.  I am not big on head to toe looks especially if they are trend driven.  If I was to wear a military jacket I would always look for a feminine blouse or dress or skirt to soften the look.  If you decide to wear a cargo jacket with a cargo skirt or pant as a uniform, make sure you wear feminine sandals or a top or add some jewelry so you don’t look like a military officer.

Another way to cover this trend without going overboard with it is to look for military details in pieces of clothing that will touch on the trend but not go overboard.  Here are some of the details to look for:

  1. Epaulettes on jackets or shirts
  2. Cargo pocket
  3. Olive green or khaki colors
  4. Military inspired belts
  5. Camouflage prints
  6. Utility jackets
  7. Parkas
  8. Surplus jackets or vests

Below you can see some of my picks from the spring 2015 runway shows for the military trend.  I have also picked some pieces for you that are in stores right now with their links that you can actually shop for now.

What do you think of the military trend and which of these are your favorite looks?
