Still Celebrating The Holidays With Armenian Christmas

Still Celebrating The Holidays With Armenian Christmas

We are now getting adjusted to the the new year and almost everyone has finished celebrating their holiday season.

That is except for Armenians, we still have one more dinner celebration for January 6th which is our official Christmas. This was the date Christmas was celebrated up to the fourth century among all Christians.  But for many different reasons (too long to get into in a blog story) the date was changed to December 25th.

Well Armenians decided to keep this date and we have always celebrated on January 6th. So now we basically celebrate Christmas twice, once on December 25th and a second time on January 6th.

I am not sure if you all know that I am originally Armenian, but I have been living in the US for over 40 years after I moved here when I was only 13 years old. However, I still speak fluent Armenian and have always kept my heritage and culture close to my heart.

In fact, my son who was born here in the US, also speaks fluent Armenian and has many Armenian friends. It was always important to me that he learns about his heritage and where his parents and ancestors came from.

We live in Glendale which is a suburb of Los Angeles and we have a lot of Armenians that live here. I don’t really know why all of us migrated to this particular city, but I like it here and it has been home to me for many many years.

So this weekend we will celebrate yet one more Christmas with my Armenian family and that is just fine with me since it is always fun to get together with loved ones and celebrate any occasion. We will officially be done with our holidays by Monday and that is when I will take our tree and decorations down and pack them away until next year.

As for today’s outfit, I decided to restyle our best-selling Novelty Multi Color Yarn Long Chenille Cardigan with Fringe, which I first debuted here. This piece has definitely been a favorite for many of our customers and we only have a few pieces left. I personally love this piece as well, as the chenille yarn is very pretty and soft and the color is beautiful.

This time I styled it with our Pearl Peasant Blouse with Metallic stripes which is a very soft and feminine blouse and it looks great with this cardigan. The metallic stripes are very subtle, and they only give it a little bit of shimmer, so you can easily wear it to any daytime outing.

I also added our Gray Pink Ivory Paisley Print Scarf which I have had in our store for a few weeks, but I have not had the chance to style it with any outfits until today. Well let me tell you, it looks great with this cardigan, I think the beautiful pink and purple colors blend nicely with the cardigan colors.

To finish off the look, I added our Blush Stone and Gold Tone Chain Earrings, which also pick up on all the pink shades.

All four pieces I am wearing today are part of our Weekend Flash Sale where you can get 15% off with code FS15 plus Free US Shipping. All international shipments are a flat rate of $25.00.

I too am Armenian (Mother’s side). I remember the name Minassian in the Phila. area. Unfortunately, many of the relatives have died.
I always have some type of speciality food around the holidays.
Like your blog – you always do a good job.
Happy and Healthy New Year ! Shnorhavor Nor Tari

It’s a wonderful thing to celebrate such a great holiday twice. My husband always likes to leave up the decorations until that day.
I love that gorgeous scarf…especially when you wear it as a wrap!!

    Hi Nora,
and hope you had a great celebration with your family. I learned something new about the Armenian Christmas. It is so important to keep heritage and customs. I miss some of the Ukranian customs we used to share over the Holidays. This is so lovely! I may have to get that scarf! I love the purple and pink tones, and you style scarves so well, I need a lesson!
    thanks for linking!

      Hi Jess,
Thank you! We did have a great celebration and now I have finally put away all the decorations and we are sadly done with the holidays until next year. Heritage is very important to me and I do want to keep it going and hope my son will also do that in the future.
I hope you do get the scarf, it is very pretty and feels super soft.
