The Perfect Trench Vest For Spring

The Perfect Trench Vest For Spring

I am a big fan of the trench coat, It is a fashion classic that has endured through the decades. But away from the runways shows and Hollywood glamour, it was during the First World War that this iconic garment took the shape that we recognize today.  A style that remains surprisingly current despite being more than 100 years old. It was originally developed to be used by British officers during WWI to help protect them from elements on the front line, hence the name “trench” which is where the soldiers spend a lot of time in during the war. There are two brands that hold claim to the invention of the trench coat: Aquascutum and Burberry. Aquascutum claiming that they came up with the original design of the trench coat and Thomas Burberry being the first person to invent the water-repellent light weight gabardine fabric that is often used to make them. Both of these brands still make beautiful trench coats today with Burberry being the ultimate design house that comes out with new versions season after season that I always love.

With that short history lesson of the iconic trench coat over, I want to introduce you to our first trench coat inspired piece for spring, our Belted Trench Vest!  I am sure you all must have had or have had some kind of trench coat or trench coat inspired piece in your closet at some point or another.  As a designer I can only do so much with this iconic piece to make it more modern or current.  I personally love vests and going into spring I thought it would be a great idea to do a trench vest.  It is made with a soft sanded and sueded microfiber fabric which gives it a super soft hand.  It is double-breasted with beautiful brown buttons, cool epaulettes on the shoulders, a tab detail in the back with a button and of course a tie belt that is removable so it is optional to wear closed or open. I styled it today with my jeans and gladiator sandals and added one of our brand new scarves that works perfectly with the tan color of the trench vest.

This piece can be styled in so many different ways, over shorts, skirts or even dresses going into spring.  You can Buy The Trench Vest Here and the Tan & Teal Scarf Here.

Both of these items are part of our 24 hour Flash Sale where you can save 15% on each item with code FS0223 at check out plus Free Shipping.

I have faux trenches but not one that is the iconic replica. Quintessential classic. I always think of Kate Hepburn. The vest is too cool. Nice for Cali weather, when you need something extra, but not a full blown coat.

      Hi Glenda
I agree the vest is a great version for warmer weather. Thank you so much for stopping by.

Love it from head to toe! I don’t actually own a Trench coat…Yet. I refuse to spend even a small amount on one until I can afford a Burberry. It may take a while but I’ll get there in the end. To me they are the epitome of the style. Thanks for the background, I’m always interested in the history of design particularly iconic designs such as the Trench coat.
And thanks so much for linking up with Reasons to Dress, you always look so chic & “put together”

Totally the perfect trench! I have a similar vest but it is not a trench. I love the printed scarf and lightweight sweater you paired with this look. Minimal and stunning!
