Womens Capes and Cape Jackets- Fall 2014 Trend Alert

Womens Capes and Cape Jackets- Fall 2014 Trend Alert

Out of all the trends that are happening for fall 2014, I have to say I am the most excited about the return of the womens capes or cape jackets.  So here is my Womens Capes and Cape Jackets- Fall 2014 Trend Alert . In the past, cape’s have been a hard sell to many customers, but I have a feeling this year is different as I am already seeing a lot of women embracing the trend early on.  Personally I have always loved capes; I actually did one of my first blog stories about a cape jacket I had just purchased from Vertigo last year.   Click Here to see my Cape Jacket story from last year – look for a new story next week as I revist the “Cape”.

The history behind the cape goes all the way back to medieval Europe.  Ever since that time, it has had periodic returns to fashion throughout the years in 19th and 20th centuries.  The word for cape is derived from the Latin “cappa” for hooded cloak or long garment.  Capes usually fall shorter or mid length but cloaks are full length and cover more of the body.  Even though most people today use the term cape much more than a cloak.  In my opinion the shorter or mid length versions are easier for most people to wear than the real long ones.  You have to be quite tall to be able to carry the long ones.  My suggestion would be to stick to one that is either a couple of inches above or below your hips.  It’s best if they don’t hit you at the widest part of your hips.  They are best worn over skinny jeans, pants or slimmer skirts and dresses.

For fall 2014 a lot of fashion designers have shown beautiful versions of womens capes in different fabrications, from plaids to leather and fur.  I have included some of my favorite runway looks below.  There are a lot of great capes already in stores and on line this year to choose from as well.  I have also included a few of my favorites below, with the links as to where you can purchase them.

What do you think of capes, will you be wearing any for fall?

I love capes. I love the way they look and I think they’re a perfect addition to your fall wardrobe. The only problem is that the ones that I like are out of my price range. I’m in love with that plaid Ferragamo cape. Beautiful! ~Cynthia
