Black Faux Leather Double Breasted Jacketย
Earlier this week I showed you a look wearing my favorite leather jacket.ย I wanted to continue writing a bit more about leather jackets and a brief history on them. ย Also I wanted to share with you some of my favorite leather jacket street style looks and some great leather jacket deals from Nordstrom.
Here are some interesting facts on the history of leather jackets:
- In early 1900โs brown leather flight jackets were worn by aviators and members of military.
- During WWII they became known as the โBomber Jacketโ.
- In 1928 Irving Schott designed the first motorcycle jacket and sold it for $5.50 (thatโs right) at a Harley Davidson store in NYC.
- In 1953 the leather motorcycle jacket reached iconic status after Marlon Brando wore it in the movie โThe Wild Oneโ.
- Soon after James Dean followed by wearing his famous leather jacket in โRebel Without A Causeโ making it the ultimate symbol of cool.
- In 1960โs this cool factor continued with Steve McQueen wearing his leather jacket with his famous aviator sunglasses.
- โThe Fonzโ from Happy Days continued the tradition in 1970โs with wearing his famous leather jacket that is now on display at Smithsonian Institute.
- The 80โs brought the punk rock look with Blondie and Billy Idol decorating their leather jackets with studs and safety pins.
Today leather jackets are included in all the fashion shows and stores at many different price points and I think I can easily say that almost every woman and man will have at least one leather jacket in their life time.
Below I have picked some of my favorite street style looks showing how different women wear leather jackets.ย I have also selected some of my favorite leather jackets from Nordstrom that are on sale right now in case you are looking for a leather jacket.

Love this, ad love the examples you provided with jeans, dresses, pretty flowing skirts, they are versatile, and there are so many lovely ones with various shapes, lots to choose from. Is your black one the tahari one with the larger flap front? I mostly wear leather jackers here in Charlotte as there isnt as much of a need for winter coats. I need to bring out my Mackage leather jacket and wear it on the blog sometime. I loved yours. great post, Nora!

Hi Jess,
I am glad this was helpful to you ๐ my leather jacket is a BCBG but its about five years old so its not available anymore. The closest thing I could find to it was the Tahari one. Mackage make some great leather jackets so you should definetly get yours out. Thank you so much for stopping by.

There is something sleek about a leather jacket with a maxi dress, giving it quite the edge. Nice post, and good timing as I just bought a Black leather jacket to wear with a leopard print maxi dress!

I LOVE leather jackets and ehem, I live in the desert. It doesn’t make sense right? But I love them so much I have a few in my closet. I made some outrages purchase on a couple of Balenciaga Moto jackets which honestly, I don’t regret regardless. The quality of the leather is just divine. Texture is buttery and smell is yummy! Everytime I open my closet, the smell of it is just overwhelming… that reminds, I have to take them out!

Wow that Balenciaga moto jacket sounds amazing, and it is a classic you can always wear. I’m glad I reminded you about them! Thanks for stopping by.
